My surgeon had cleared me for 'light duty, graduated work hours' at 6wk post-op, but the company couldn't accommodate the restrictions and sent me home for 4wks followed by 2wks vacation. I've got 2wks 'light duty' so I can ramp up to my previous job. I've got my fingers crossed.

: The good news...
: I've had NO numbness in the hand and no need for pain meds since the 2nd day post-op. My range of motion is close to 100%, grip about 85% as compared to my other hand. My scar is almost invisible. Also, although I haven't really pushed the hand too hard, it has stood up to any activity I've tried. My only 'setback' was a bad ultrasound session at 8wks post-op that gave me some throbing pain intermittently for about a week. In recent days the stiffness has eased and I can even bear my weight on the hand, with only mild discomfort.

: The bad news...
: Since I've been off work, the company has laid off hundreds, leaving me 34 from the door in a factory of a couple thousand. Once my 2wks 'light duty' is done I'll likely face the toughest jobs in the place. Although I've been keeping one eye on a career change, the necessity of a paycheque kind of keeps me chained.

: I sure hope the old paw is up to the task.

: At 12wks though, I feel like a bit of a success story. I hope it gives a bit of hope to anyone who feels hopeless with this.

I had surgery same day as you - same hand. I'm basically doing as well as you except for some scar tissue, but it seems to be shrinking a lot. I helped my husband move two heavy (solid) doors off the front of our house with little difficulty and I bet I'm a lot older than you. :) I hope the best for you - just take it easy on that hand for awhile longer.
