: Hi : I hope someone can help me. I am schedule for an EMG next week for severe pain and numbness and after awakening in my hand/arm. It wakes me up in the middle of the night and sometimes the pain is very severe. My hand is swollen and cannot be touched. Did anyone ever experience this type of pain and numbness with CTS? Can you please e-mail me at jusgvnmy2cnts@aol.com. Thanks so much : Jayne It sounds like your symptoms are really severe. In my case the splints didn't work very well and 600mg ibuprofen gave temporary relief.I ultimately needed the surgery.Since surgery in OCT my symptoms have disappeared and I'm almost back to full strength. If you require surgery choose your surgeon carefully. There are many horror stories on this site from surgery gone bad.Find out everything you can about your DR.If you can ,go to a big city teaching hospital for the surgery even though some people will tell you it is "minor surgery".Surgery is only minor when it is being done to someone else.It seems like most of the patients I talked to in the waiting room already had surgery somewhere else first.Go to the best DR available the first time around.A few extra hours driving is a wise investment if it raises the odds a little bit in your favor. GOOD LUCK!
